Ahoy Mateys! Hop on board our pirate ship and join the crew! This week, we craft a variety of ceramic pieces that find inspiration from a pirate’s life at sea. We begin by mixing squishy clay between our toes and learning a pirate’s jig, then we take time to create clay grog mugs and bone soup bowls. We also make our very own pirate necklaces and sculpt a parrot friend! When our clay creations head off to the kiln, we must prepare to hoist our Jolly Roger flags and have fun tie-dyeing do-rags! Oh, the wild things we will discover while on the ocean blue!
SALLY GIERKE has been an elementary school teacher and professional potter for four decades. Her work ranges from functional objects to large-scale murals, some having been undertaken as multi-generational collaborations under her direction.
