A highlight of Anderson Ranch’s 50th anniversary year, Featured Artists & Conversations hosts world-renowned artists and key figures in the art world who visit the Ranch’s five acre site located in Aspen/Snowmass to present and discuss their work with students, faculty, patrons and the public

2016 Summer Series to Run July 7 – August 11

Aspen/Snowmass, Colo. (April 27, 2016) — Anderson Ranch Arts Center, a premier art making destination and catalyst for critical dialogue in the contemporary art world, announces the line-up for its six-week Featured Artists & Conversations Series, including acclaimed artists The Haas Brothers, Thomas Houseago, Titus Kaphar, Liza Lou, Alex Prager, Charles Ray, and Carrie Mae Weems. The series will also feature prominent art collectors Nancy Magoon and Eleanore and Domenico De Sole; curator Ann Philbin, Director of the Hammer Museum; and senior art critic for New York Magazine, Jerry Saltz.

The annual series, which has previously featured some of the most influential artists of our time, explores the work of world-renowned artists and curators, and hosts conversations with today’s most influential critics and collectors, in both lecture and Q&A formats. Past artist participants have included Marina Abramović (2013), Holland Cotter (2014), Theaster Gates (2014), Rashid Johnson (2012), Anne Pasternak (2014), Laurie Simmons (2011), Frank Stella (2015), Mickalene Thomas (2010), Hank Willis Thomas (2015), Bill Viola (2013), and Kara Walker (2012). Taking place on select dates throughout Aspen’s summer season, the popular series draws over 1,500 top U.S. collectors and patrons, art enthusiasts and the public as well as Anderson Ranch students and faculty. All public events are free, though a reservation is required.

The Summer Series is part of a full slate of creative dialogue programming at Anderson Ranch throughout the year, including a joint symposium with the Aspen Institute Society of Fellows, June 19-21, entitled “Race, Gender and Class: Social Justice Through the Lens of Contemporary Art,” featuring MacArthur Fellow, artist and community organizer Rick Lowe, and activist artist Andrea Bowers as moderators. Enrique Martínez Celaya will offer a mini-workshop, “Alternatives,” (July 2) about the understanding of art and its role in society. Tom Sachs and Tom Healy will present a special workshop on the cultural significance of contemporary art making (July 13-14).
