Mary Conover
Working in a tradition of abstraction, Conover views art as an investigation into reality’s unchanging core. She has explored the symbolism of light as consciousness in her studio practice of painting, collage, photography, and digital photomontage. The paintings in this exhibition were developed from a series of studies she made in her recent travel workbooks. Her work is published in a monograph, “Alchemy of Light,” by Whale & Star Press.
Lovendahl’s works are undergirded with the content of her inner experience of “being” in nature. Her intent is to make these ephemeral experiences visual. The sculptures for the show are called “Intercessions.” Intercession, the act of intervening or mediating between two parties is also, in many world belief systems, a prayer to God on behalf of others. In this exhibit, Lovendahl chose to use the term as an intervening possibility for our own evolution.
