Lauded as the father of the art furniture movement, celebrated American artist Wendell Castle has been a sculptor, designer and educator for over five decades. From the outset of his career, Castle has consistently challenged the boundaries of functional design, becoming renowned for his superb craftsmanship, whimsically organic forms and original techniques for stack-laminating wood.
Michael J. Golec is Associate Professor of the History of Design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
