Deb Oden
DATES: June 1 – 5, 2015
SKILL LEVEL: Open to all
CONCEPT: Challenge the notion of artistic limits to awe-inspiring results. This workshop is structured as a print intensive with a highly exploratory focus, taking risks in making and yielding wonderful results. No printmaking experience is needed, but the class is not for the faint of heart. Do you want a brilliant body of work at the end of a one-week intensive? Can you work in ways that challenge your normal methods? Then come ready to work fearlessly, with intention and dedication and leave the workshop in a braver place than you began.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Students begin with etching techniques utilizing alcohol-based markers and spray paints as stop outs and stencils with aquatints. We use relief techniques for building fields of color and pronto-plate lithography for adding specifics to the vast monoprint body of work we create.
ACTIVITIES: We spend our mornings demonstrating print processes while afternoons are dedicated to intensive work sessions. The last two days are spent putting together the various processes and materials into a cohesive body of monoprints. Emphasis is placed on combining drawings from nature with presourced materials.
FACULTY: Deb Oden’s work has been exhibited in France, China, Thailand, Egypt, Poland, Austria and Romania. Her prints are collected at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery,Hallmark Global Services, and the Kohler Art Library.
