Katherine Alexander
DATES: July 20 – 24, 2015
SKILL LEVEL: Open to all
CONCEPT: Color is never just color. It evokes a perceptible mood, quality or presence that animates and defines a painting. Whether translating natural colors or working abstractly, one’s understanding of color lends depth, complexity and singular expression to our visual vocabulary. This studio workshop is for anyone who wants to develop or expand their ability to create more expressive, impactful images.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Using the transparent medium of Golden Heavy Body acrylic paints, students experiment with juxtaposing colors and building up surfaces to create evocative forms, atmospheric qualities, volume and depth. Focusing on color studies or individual projects are equally welcome.
ACTIVITIES: We learn through demonstrations, lectures, readings and music accompany hands-on experimentation. Each day includes group discussions, one-on-one help, color experiments and critiques. We work on studies from direct observation, images and photographs for development into compositions and paintings.
