Jul 01, 2013 – Jul 05, 2013 | The Visual Language Of Portraiture

Mona Kuhn

Ever wonder why a Richard Avedon portrait strikes you so differently than an Annie Leibovitz? This workshop asks participants to question the visual language of portraiture. As the group examines the many forms, ideas and histories within portraiture, we have opportunities to question preconceived ideas. Each of us creates a series of portraits that best represents and extends our existing photographic practice.

Jul 01, 2013 – Jul 12, 2013 | Veneer Workshop

Miguel Gómez-Ibáñez

Veneering is an ancient art dating back to the ancient Egyptians, who used veneers on their furniture and sarcophagi. The decision to favor the use of wood veneer over solid wood is influenced by many factors, including design intent, structural integrity, environmental awareness and cost. Each of these factors and more is explored through discussions, demonstrations and hands-on applications of veneered wood in the design and construction of furniture.

Jul 01, 2013 – Jul 05, 2013 |  Contemporary Silverpoint

Craig Drennen

One of several types of metalpoint used by scribes, craftsmen and artists since ancient times, a silverpoint drawing is made by dragging a silver rod or wire across a surface. This workshop introduces us to the technique and history of silverpoint drawing within a contemporary art context. We focus on a technical foundation with emphasis on observational drawing. During the course of the week we complete five to seven silverpoint drawings.

Jul 01, 2013 – Jul 05, 2013 | Monotypes: stencils, blends and transfers

Elizabeth Ferrill

Monotypes are often described as “painterly prints,” but using Mylar to make hand-cut stencils yields a more graphic, clean-edged effect. This workshop is open to painters and printmakers alike who are intrigued by the process of creating one-of-a-kind prints. Stencil methods are introduced in addition to mark making processes, background blends, gum Arabic transfers and other fascinating techniques. Students have opportunities to translate drawings, paintings and photographs into the print form using Plexiglas plates as printing surfaces.

Jul 08, 2013 – Jul 12, 2013 | Innovative IPhone Imagery

Karen Divine

The iPhone is such a powerful tool for creating beautiful single photographs and brilliant at creating stunning composite imagery. Karen will cover the basics of organizing and transferring images as well as providing one-on-one time guiding you towards the images you want to create and establishing your own personal voice. She will go in depth with a few specific apps which allow for endless possibilities.

Jul 08, 2013 – Jul 12, 2013 | Design Your Deck: Skateboard Creations

Jason Schneider

Ollie into this workshop and make a major statement the next time you ride! This experience is for skateboard enthusiasts of all types who want to add that unique edge to their boards. We begin by looking at skateboard designs and then transfer our own ideas with special paint onto our own decks. After adding wheels, grip tape and final assembly, we road test our one-of-a-kind creations.

Jul 08, 2013 – Jun 12, 2013 | Welding for Artists

Evan Blackstock

Welding is both an instrument of assembly and a means of artistic expression. In this workshop we explore the fundamentals of metal fabrication and their impact on a multitude of studio practices. Whether using steel as a medium or in conjunction with other materials, we learn the proper tools and techniques for achieving our sculptural objectives. We create several small projects utilizing new skills to build a final project of our own choosing.
