Sculptural Forms: Furniture and Object
Allison Samuels
Tuition $1,240
Code W1413-25
Together we will explore the melding of form, function, and delight in this one-week workshop. Participants will develop their skills in traditional and nontraditional methods of wood carving to design and create a small object or piece of sculptural furniture. Participants will select one of four commonly used objects, and using this as a starting point, develop a new and unique form. We will begin our week with presentation, design research, and rapid prototyping before moving quickly into critique and fabrication. Participants will be encouraged to expound upon their unique design sensibilities, by incorporating varying hand & machine joinery techniques, bent lamination and/or sculpted components in their final piece. Prior woodworking experience is helpful to attend this workshop, particularly so for project completion.
