Crafting Nature: Wood Mimicry
Joyce Lin
Tuition $1,240
Code W1009-25
In this hands-on workshop, students will explore the art of faux-bois techniques that mimic the intricate textures and patterns of wood. They will learn both grain painting methods and bark sculpting techniques, while gaining an understanding of wood growth, structure, patterns, and colors. Participants will practice on flat panels and apply these techniques to create a cross-sectioned 'log' featuring face grain, end grain, and outer bark in a wood species of their choice—real or imagined. Open to all levels and experimental, this workshop is for sculptors, furniture makers, and anyone fascinated by the study and imitation of nature.
