Kazuki Guzman
Kazuki Guzmán is a Chicago-based designer specializing in domestic objects and furniture. His work is deeply inspired by Mingei, the Japanese folk-craft tradition, which he embraces as a methodology to celebrate handmade culture and promote sustainable design.
Through a practice centered on collection, collaboration, and curation, Guzmán strives to broaden the accessibility and vocabulary of traditional crafts, fostering innovative collaborations across various fields.

Students are new to Furniture Design & Woodworking and have no formal training.

Students have experience working with stationary machines and power tools and are familiar with basic principles of joinery and 3-D design.

Students have some formal training in 3-D design, experience with a variety of materials and fabrication processes, and know how to use machine and hand tools competently and safely. Students have a portfolio of their artwork.

This workshop explores the whimsical side of furniture making by drawing inspiration from the playful nature of toys. Students harness the possibilities of wood through employing different joinery, shaping techniques, and functional design. The course combines fun, experimentation, and hands-on learning to create furniture infused with lightheartedness and creativity.
