This workshop focuses on how our personal identities not only inform the work we create but how we decide when and where our artistic voices are appropriate. Conversations and explorations discuss what community or individuals we are creating photographs of, who the intended audience is, and how and why our voice is the appropriate one to do so. Examining photographic artists who were both outsiders and insiders of communities—and understanding how that changes the way we look at photographs—is an integral aspect of this workshop. Photographs are made not only at the Ranch but on field trips that take a deep dive into personal aesthetic, artistic voice, and the surrounding communities.
