Contemporary and Traditional Sumi Ink Painting
Yoonmi Nam
Tuition $1,415
Code D1328-25
In this workshop, students engage with the past while immersing themselves in the present as they focus on the practice of painting using sumi ink and brush on paper. We take a contemporary and experimental approach to sumi ink painting while referencing traditional Asian brush painting and calligraphy. We consider brush marks and lines to be descriptive, meditative, intuitive, experimental, and expressive while also examining varied modes of presentations, such as collages and simple folding and book-making. Participants are encouraged to come with an open mind and experimental spirit; the only expectation is to be present within the process.
