Supported Artist Residency
For artists impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles
In response to the recent devastating fires in the Los Angeles area, Anderson Ranch is offering a supported residency program this fall for 15 artists affected by the disaster with all program fees waived.
Many artists lost their homes, studios, archives, and work, leaving the art community deeply impacted. Some of these artists have longstanding ties to Anderson Ranch, while others may be new to us. As a residency based in Western Colorado—a region also vulnerable to wildfires—we stand in solidarity with our friends in LA and offer this opportunity for recovery and renewal. In addition, Helen Molesworth, renowned critic, author, and curator, will be serving as the visiting critic for the residency cohort, providing valuable studio feedback and constructive input to all of the participants.
The Anderson Ranch Artists-in-Residence program is distinguished by its exceptional staff support and world-class facilities, which we are making available to artists who have lost access to studios, tools, housing, and community support. Artists impacted by these fires are invited to apply for this 5-week residency, with program and application fees waived. This program is open to artists working in painting, printmaking, photography & new media, furniture design & woodworking, sculpture, and ceramics. Artists will be responsible for travel and material costs. We aim to provide a space for these artists to create, rebuild, and heal during this challenging time.

Dates & Details
- This 5-week residency will be held from October 15 – November 19, 2025
- Application and residency fees will be waived, and residents will be provided with housing, studio space, and meals.
- Residents will be responsible for travel and the cost of materials.

Application Considerations
- Artists who are interested should submit all required application materials as outlined below.
- Applicants may include an impact statement detailing how they’ve been affected by the Los Angeles fires.
- Due to the variety of ways that artists have been impacted by this disaster, applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis by a jury panel, and the unique stories of each applicant will be considered.

Visiting Critic Program
Renowned critic and long-time friend of the Ranch, Helen Molesworth, will serve as the Visiting Critic for this residency program.
As part of the residency program, Anderson Ranch invites internationally recognized artists and critics to give valuable studio feedback to program participants, allowing residents a chance to receive constructive input on the direction of their work. During her time at the Ranch, Helen will give a public lecture and spend one to three days visiting the studios and critiquing resident or student work.
Required Application Materials
- Website/Instagram
- Contact information, resume/CV, and short bio
- Area of focus
- A statement of purpose: what you plan to accomplish using the time, space and facilities if you are awarded a residency.
- An impact statement detailing how you’ve been affected by the Los Angeles fires.
- Three references (including contact information) who can attest to your ability to participate and work within an artistic community. If selected, your references will be contacted by Anderson Ranch Arts Center during the review process. Letters of recommendation are not required.
- Ten images of work completed within the past three years including: images (up to 5MB each) and/or video (up to 250MB each). Jpeg images should be no larger than 5MB each. Each time-based work sample should be up to two minutes in length or less. Do not include external links to media samples or websites. Do not include multiple page pdfs as one media sample. Do not include trailer video samples.
- All applicants must be 21+
